If you haven't voted yet, today's the day. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and anyone in line at 7:30 p.m. still gets to vote. Head to your assigned polling place with a photo ID. Most people show a driver's license.

Not sure where you vote? Enter your name, birth year and county in the State Board's Voter Search tool to find your polling place and sample ballot. Have a photo ID but left it at home? You can vote a provisional ballot and bring an acceptable ID to your county elections office by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

  • Absentee ballots: must reach your county board by 7:30 p.m. today
  • Registration: not allowed today, with narrow exceptions
  • Curbside voting: available for eligible voters who can't enter

On the ballot, three statewide referendums cover requiring photo ID for voting, a 3.5% maximum income tax rate and a property tax levy limit. You'll also see a U.S. Senate seat and an N.C. Supreme Court seat.

Duke routed Boston College, UNC nearly upset Miami and NC State won on Halloween weekend

If you follow the Triangle's three ACC football teams, Halloween weekend gave you plenty to talk about. UNC fell 38-35 to top-ranked Miami at Kenan Memorial Stadium after a late sack-fumble by quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. ended the Tar Heels' upset hopes. Edwards threw for 341 yards and a career-high four touchdowns.

The Wrap

Tortoises often outlive their human caretakers, and a Wake County haven gives displaced ones a permanent home. The North Carolina Tortoise Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates tortoises in need from across the United States. It was CBS 17's 3-Degree Guarantee charity for October 2026, and the station handed over a giant check. Slow and steady wins again.
