Kimono Unfolded: Learn to Dress Yourself
Come learn how to put on your kimono! We will demonstrate how to dress in kimono and you can follow along. Please bring your own kimono, obi, and tools for this learning experience. If you do not own a kimono, you can still join, either by renting a set or simply observing the workshop.
What to Bring
• Your own kimono (if you have one)
• Juban - undergarment with white collar
• Himo sash ties x 3 or 4
• Sanju himo (3-layer elastic himo sash tie)
• Fukuro obi (long, wide belt, all one width)
• Obiage (obi scarf)
• Obijime (obi cord)
• Eri shin (stiff collar insert) - Women's kimono only
• Any additional accessories you wish to use, such as datejime (wide sash belt), obi-ita (under-obi board), obi-makura (obi pillow), or korin (double-clip) belt
Practice Session Details
Immerse yourself in Japanese culture! Join us to practice the traditional techniques of kimono dressing. Club leaders and partners will demonstrate how to put on a furisode , practicing more complex obi knots suitable for this more formal style of kimono.
If you do not have a kimono, you can rent a kimono, tools, and accessories set from the club. Please be aware, however, due to the nature of the garment, sizing is limited.
Rent a kimono, tools, and accessories:
• Tsukesage, houmongi, or komon set $15
• Furisode set $30
Send payments to: Venmo @eireannlily, or cash on arrival
