About this event

The days are getting shorter and it's getting dark early, so we'll try doing a hike on a Saturday morning this time, and in the future maybe move to earlier on Sunday afternoons.

Join us for a Saturday morning walk on the Eagle Trail at the Eno River . We'll do an out-and-back trail that's about 3 miles, and stop to read by the banks of the Eno near Sennett Hole.

Note that while this is near the West Point on the Eno city park, that park is currently closed for renovations. So we will be meeting in a smaller parking lot on the north side of the river, which remains open, and we will access the trails on the north bank from there. The specific place we'll meet is shown here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KwFkTHRrDB6gU7zV9

This is a relatively easy trail, but is rocky in places and may be muddy so wear shoes with good grip. There are also a couple of creek crossings where we'll be using stepping stones, so if you have difficulty with balance you may want to bring hiking poles. You can see our specific route here: https://www.komoot.com/tour/3378051801 If you arrive late, follow the direction of the arrows on this map to catch up with us.

We'll meet at 9:30am on Saturday November 14 in the parking lot on the north side of the Eno River near the West Point on the Eno Park. The specific place we'll meet is shown here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/KwFkTHRrDB6gU7zV9 We'll aim to be back the the parking lot by 11:30am.

We hope to see some of the "regulars" there, and to meet new folks! This group is a great way to meet people who both enjoy walking in nature and reading and talking about books and ideas. It's a fun group, with friendly people.

A couple of other notes:

• If you sign up and later realize you can no longer come, please change your RSVP to indicate that, so it will open up your space for someone on the waitlist, and so we know not to wait for you at the trailhead.

• If you're on the waitlist, check Meetup up to the day of the event, because often people drop out late and spaces open up at the last minute.

• We’ll still plan to walk if it’s drizzling or raining lightly. But if there’s heavy rain or extreme heat or cold in the forecast, we’ll reschedule and send a notice by the morning of the event to people who have registered.

• Participation in this hike and any of the events organized by this group are at your own risk. These hikes are on public and well-used trails, but there may be dangers like tripping over tree roots, snake or insect bites, poison ivy, or other unpredictable risks. By joining this event you agree not to hold the organizers responsible for any injuries, and that you understand that you participate at your own risk.

See you soon!
